Fifth Avenue Apartment
A new home for a couple who are patrons of science and the arts safeguards and celebrates their collection of modern art and furnishings in an elegant setting overlooking Central Park.
Located within a Rosario Candela-designed pre-war building on Fifth Avenue, the comprehensive 3,650 square-foot renovation mediates between architecture and art.
The design maintains the generous scale and arrangement of the original rooms with a new design. Throughout the residence, subtle details integrate the collection, the design, and the couple’s personal taste.
Entirely new finishes, including extensive millwork and stone, impart warmth to the interiors. Black walnut floors link the primary living spaces to create seamless transitions. In the living and dining rooms, two new fireplace mantels are each carved with a stepped profile from solid blocks of Grigio Verona stone.
To provide flexibility for art display, a hanging track is incorporated within a continuous reveal where walls meet ceilings. New central air-conditioning, humidification and museum-quality art lighting are seamlessly and elegantly integrated within the design.
